Getting Started
Open any spreadsheet and go to Extensions → Data Validation Manager → Launch Data Validation Manager. The sidebar lists the validation rules of the tab you are on first and loads the other tabs in the background. Click Find invalid entries to check the whole workbook; every address in the result jumps to its cell. Rules themselves are created and edited in Google Sheets under Data → Data validation; the sidebar is where you find invalid entries and copy, propagate, back up and delete rules.
Before You Write
- If the sidebar fails to load, close it and reopen it from Extensions → Data Validation Manager → Launch Data Validation Manager.
- If you see a support code in an error message, include it in your email. It helps us find your report in our logs.
- If the rule list looks out of date after you edited rules in the sheet or pressed Ctrl/Cmd+Z, click the Refresh icon in the sidebar header. The add-on also refuses to write when a rule changed in the sheet since it was listed; refresh and try again.
- Every change made from the sidebar is undone with Ctrl/Cmd+Z in the sheet, then Refresh in the sidebar. The undo history is the spreadsheet's own: it is per session and per editor, so for older changes use File → Version history.
Authorization Problems
If Data Validation Manager shows a message like “You do not have permission…” or the sidebar will not open, the add-on has not been granted the access it needs to run. To fix it:
- When you launch the add-on, click Allow on the Google permission screen so it can access the current spreadsheet and show its sidebar.
- If you previously declined or removed access, reset it: open myaccount.google.com/connections, select Data Validation Manager, click Remove access, then reopen your spreadsheet, launch the add-on again, and click Allow this time.
- On a work or school account, your Google Workspace administrator may need to approve the add-on before you can authorize it. If the steps above do not help, email us at support@cloudnetix.de.
Known Limitations
- Workbooks with more than 100 tabs load the first 100 automatically; the rest show Load anyway.
- Tabs with more than 60,000 cells are listed as not loaded; Load anyway scans and checks them on request.
- The invalid entries dialog lists up to 200 cells per rule; above that it shows the total and the first 200 with a +N more note.
- Imports are capped at 500 rules per file: split larger exports and import them in parts.
- Dropdowns imported from JSON arrive in the default style: chip colors cannot travel in a file. Copying to tabs and propagating from a cell keep chip colors and multiple selection, because they copy the rule the way Sheets does.
- When a rule is copied to another tab, a dropdown that takes its items from a range keeps pointing at its original tab; custom formulas adjust like Paste special.
- A block whose rule differs from row to row (for example dependent dropdowns) is shown as one per-row card. Copy and delete act on each cell's real rule; an export reads such a block cell by cell up to 200 cells and skips it with a reason above that.
- A rule with a criteria type the add-on cannot read is shown as unsupported. It is preserved untouched and can be deleted, but never copied or exported.
- There are no scheduled checks: run Find invalid entries whenever you need the current picture. Blank cells count as valid, as in Google Sheets.
